Ice Conditions Causing Breakaway

Dear Illinois, Upper Mississippi, and Missouri River Members,

Several events are unfolding due to ice conditions on multiple rivers. We currently have 3 tugs and four barges adrift on the Missouri River due to ice flows causing breakaways.

The Coast Guard is trying to prepare for an Ice Gorge coming down the Illinois River and the possible breakaways that it could cause.

Our request to you: Please communicate with the USCG on where your red flag barges are moored and their current locations (from Kankakee River to St. Louis) so the USCG can plan on where potential emergency response may be needed. You can also reach out to tessakandres@irpt.net with your list.
