Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg Announces New Members of Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Committee

Aimee Andres, Executive Director of Inland Rivers, Ports and Terminals, Inc. (IRPT), has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to the Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Committee (MTSNAC).
In April, Ms. Andres had also been appointed to the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Standing Committee on Ports and Channels in April 2022.
Both appointments reflect the leadership role that Ms. Andres plays not only within IPRT but throughout the inland waterways transportation industry. Those who work with her can attest to the knowledge, creativity and energy that she brings to addressing the needs of the ports and other facilities on our nation’s inland waterways. She and the other new members of MTSNAC appointed from the inland waterways industry will be provide an effective and necessary voice for those waterways and their place in our country’s maritime transportation system.
Ms. Andres is an Accredited Maritime Port Executive awarded by the International Association of Maritime Port Executives (IAMPE) and recognized by the Maine Maritime Academy and Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business and Logistics. In addition to her position with IRPT, she serves on the Board of Directors for the IAMPE and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the National Waterways Conference.
In October 2021 Ms. Andres received IAMPE’s first Industry Leadership Award for “Outstanding Leadership in the Port and Maritime Industry.” In 2018, she was among the first recipients of the “40 Under 40” award given at the annual Inland Marine Expo trade show conducted by The Waterways Journal.
The MTSNAC comprises leaders from commercial transportation firms, trade associations, state and local public entities, labor organizations, academic, and environmental groups that advise the Secretary on policies to ensure that the U.S. marine transportation system can respond to continual increases in trade.
The MTSNAC will ultimately comprise 22 members from public and private entities and 5 senior federal employees from various agencies whose purpose is to guide the Secretary of Transportation on matters relating to U.S. maritime transportation, its integration with other segments of the transportation system, and the viability of the U.S. Merchant Marine.
